Realistic Expectations

You can’t always get what you want….but if you try sometimes you just might find, you get what you need.

Yes, like many of you I grew up with that song, when the Rolling Stones, and us, were young. You live, you learn. You can’t always get what you want but in the end we all make it happen. Only it does not always happen the way we thought it would.

For example I became a Krav Maga instructor despite the fact that when I was younger I was sure that my destiny was to be the Jewish Jimi Hendrix. At 17 I knew I was going to be like the guitar heroes of my age, Clapton, Hendrix, Jimmy page, George Harrison, Santana, Tony Iommi, Jeff Beck, Keith Richards…

But we do not always get what we want and we need to learn that, fast.

Life lessons…some of us want to be basketball stars but …we lack the height, we do what we can. Some of what to be brain surgeons but we have no head for details. Some of us want to be a concert pianist but we have short stubby fingers.

You can’t always get what you want….

No you can’t always get what you want…but if you try sometimes you just might find you get what you need.

The man, the legend, Mick Jagger….Listen up!

Krav Maga…

At IKI we will only teach you what you can use. You might want to defend yourself with a cool back-spinning jump kick, you might want to grab the guy and flip him over your head, you might want to look like the cool Kung Fu guys in the movies but those are not realistic expectations. Perhaps there are super athletes who can do that, but it is not me or you. It is not your average person who can only devote 3 hours per week to training.

I do not care about what “works” on video, I care what works for you, when you tired, fatigued, not in the mood.

We want to prevent your world from turning black…”I could not foresee this thing happening to you” (Rolling Stones)

We train with realistic expectations. We may not always give you what you want but we will give you what you need. And that my friends is the reality of life.

Some of you may know that I am not a great singer…can’t really change that. We do what we can and we get by.

Here we go….You can’t always get what you want.

But if you try….

So we try and we give you realistic tools. We create realistic expectations. We will stick to what you can do under stress. We will stick to what you can do after an injury, we will stick to what you can do when you are no longer young and fit.

We all grow old, or at least the wise and lucky ones among us.
